Hamburgers

My narrative project, Hamburgers, is the silent portrayal of the infamous Hamburger scene from the film Pulp Fiction, by Quentin Tarantino. I combined this scene with three songs by Charlie Chaplin, all from original scores from three of his films (Modern Times, City Lights and A Dog’s Life). I was most interested in what would happen to Tarantino’s original scene in terms of aesthetic and concept- I knew the look of the film would change because I wanted it to resemble a Chaplin film. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the original scene was very compatible with Chaplin’s music in terms of timing and the actors’ gestures/expressions. Several moments were also ironic or unintentionally humorous once the music was added; which did not change the story, but did change my reaction to it.
